Janet,
I think it would be a good idea for me to do something on Mennipean Satire itself. However, with a move happening next weekend, I'll have to leave you with the short bit on it in this post.

I looked into the Satyricon, and from what I can see, Mennipean Satire differs in an important regard in that the object of the satire is some sort of study or rhetorical object, like politics or a Humanity. I can't seem to pin down what that would be in the Satyricon. But here I'm most definitely speaking out of ignorance. That said, I think I'll leave making those connections to you.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, I haven't read this latest installment of yours yet, but just quickly wanted to ask a favor before I race outta here.
While we are all busy rereading the Consolatio, could you give us a little lecture on Menippean satire? All I recall is that it is a Mixed-forms genre. (Is it the Satyricon?)
How closely does it correspond to the DIALOGUE form of the Consolatio?
So I'd like you to describe the genre for us, give us a little history on it, and then compare the construction of the Consolatio with that. Thanks!
