An expectant Advent

Those of you in DC might know that I’m having a very expectant advent right now.

You all know that I don’t forward emails or post silly stuff here (I don’t know why I make these caveats, but I feel compelled to nonetheless), but I thought that those of you that are intentional about resisting certain rather unhealthy aspects of the seasonal buzz might find this bit encouraging. And I’m all about encouragement here.

From the Sojourners daily email.

Have Yourself a Peace and Justice Christmas

Have yourself a peace and justice Christmas,
Set your heart a-right.
Flee the malls and focus on Christ’s guiding light.

Have yourself a peace and justice Christmas,
Give your time a way.
Share God’s love, And serve “the least of these” today.

Here we are, as we pray for peace,
We’ll live simply and give more.
We care for those far and near to us,
Which brings cheer to us, once more.

God brings down
The haughty from high places,
And lifts up the low.
God cares for the hungry and the humble, so –
Forget the stress and let the peace and justice flow!

Optimus Prime on GAFCON

The Anglican Scotist directs our attention to Optimus Prime’s piercing critique of the GAFCON document and its attack on the Anglican Covenant, found at the Rev. Canon Kendall Harmon’s excellent blog. OP makes the especially perceptive point that the Covenant is not in itself a “fix” for current problems, but rather an something like an prolegomena or architecture for how churches in the communion relate to one another. It’s subtle but extremely important re: our expectations.

ADDITIONALLY: a link offered by 3rd Mill. Catholic analyzing the GAFCON.

Anglo-Catholic blogger discovered!

Head on over to haligweorc, a blog I discovered thanks to 3rd Mill. Catholic, who i discovered thanks to Per Caritatem. I was especially delighted to read the quite funny post “Faux Catholic.” Those of you that are still not quite sure what being Anglo-Catholic entails, as is the case with most Anglo-Catholics I know, will definitely get a kick out of it. One of the coolest things about this strange blogging culture is learning that there are other people out there going through situations quite similar to your own. A rather virtual support group.

Boethius finale

Hey you all,

Cynthia has posted the last installment in my Boethius series if you care to read it in all it’s irresponsible-scholarly-grandeur!

Boethius, redux

Cynthia has graciously offered to repost my Boethius series at Per Caritatem. Read it here. Apparently, she doesn’t realize how shoddy my forays into philosophy actually are. That said, my hat’s off to her for her courage in reposting my paper. And if you follow along you might actually get the conclusion to the paper, which I didn’t post here.

weekend update

Dear all TLOU readers,

Our sincerest apologies for the dearth of posts. Aron is in New Mexico recording a new rawk album, and I am still playing Tetris with moving boxes in my new place. Things should be settling down in the next couple weeks and then we’ll get back to the same quality The Land of Unlikeness posts that you’re used to…. to which you are used….. whatever.

And if you’re wondering why I never finished the Boethius jawn, it’s because Cynthia at Per Caritatem has asked to repub it for her blog. So, if you want to read the awesome conclusion, you’ll have to do so there. While you’re there, you ought to check out the CFP for her upcoming Augustine blog conference. Go Augustine racer.
